After your arrival in Paris, we will be whisked away on the TGV to our 4-star hotel in Avignon, France. Avignon will be one of our base locations for our tour.
We will take daily excursions to such places as the vineyards of the southern Rhone valley and Châteauneuf du Pape wineries. We will visit a secret wine cave, meet with wine producers of private estates, have wonderful meals followed by wine tastings. An enjoyable time indeed.
This area is steeped in medieval history, we will have a tour of the Papal Palace. This is the only time in history that the seat of the Catholic Church was outside of Rome. We will visit the UNESCO heritage site of Pont du Gard with its ancient aqueducts, Les Baux-de-Provence deemed ‘One of the most beautiful villages in France,’ and visit an olive grove for a tasting. A stop in Arles to visit its Roman amphitheater and the countryside that inspired Van Gogh to create his many paintings is a must.
Next stop on our tour is Cassis and Bandal, we will visit two wineries that have an unusual location of being close to the sea. Cooled by the sea breezes yet close enough to the Mediterranean to enjoy a view. We will have lunch before we continue to our final destination of Nice.
Nice is nice! The Promenade Anglais stretches 4 miles along the coast. Once a favorite location for Queen Victoria and British tourist on the Grand Tour. Nice still retains its old-world international charm reflected in the Russian Church, Rothschild Estate, Old Town & the port.
Our trip will come to an end as we finish our tour in Paris at the Charles de Gaulle Airport
